Removing old ceramic tile from a wood subfloor plywood. We had to use a air chisel and large pry bars to get up the tile and cement board. This took three guys a whole day to do.

When installing tile on a subfloor you must remove all tile, cement board, and any other old substrate like Luan before installing new Durock or cement board. Use Thinset under the new cement board and fasten with screws. Screws should be placed every 6 inches around perimeter and every 8 inches in the field. Be sure to use non-alkaline fiber mesh tape to tape and mud over your seams.

When installing Heated Wiring for your tile floors, be sure you run a dedicated circuit for the thermostat and power. I recommend using self leveler poured over installed Heat Wiring. Suntouch Heated Floors are what I like to use. Call for more info or to find an authorized installer near you.
