The Most Commonly Used Tile In Residential Homes today in Hampton Roads, for the average home, is a
toss between
Ceramic and Porcelain.  Ceramic is usually a red clay fired at a lower temperature.
Porcelain is a white clay fired at a higher temperature. The Porcelain is therefore more dense than Ceramic
Tile and harder. There is also
Natural Stone and Glass. In the Natural Stone Family the most commonly
used Tiles are Travertine, Marble, Granite, Slate, and Quartzite. Glass is more commonly used for
Kitchen
Back Splashes
and Master Bathrooms.

Ceramic Tile is better used for walls and floors on a
slab foundation. (Cement) We recommend using
Porcelain or Stone on a wood sub floor (Crawl Space). Be sure when looking at Tile that you don't buy wall
rated tile for your floor. You CAN use floor tile on a wall but you CAN NOT  use wall rated tile on a floor. It
isn't strong enough. If you are planning on Using Floor Tile on your walls be sure to look for some type of
edging like
Schluter Strips or Pencil Molding for the exposed edges of the tile as Floor Tile doesn't come
with
Bull Nose Trim (tile with finished rounded edge. There is nothing worse than tile looking unfinished.
